BLUE EARTH — The Martin County Red Bulls generated eight falls to highlight their 58-15 wrestling triumph over the Blue Earth Area Bucs during a Big South Conference dual meet on Thursday night in Blue Earth.

Class AA No. 9-ranked 121-pounder Pierce Rohman bumped up a weight class to record the first of the Red Bulls’ pins. Rohman pressed Logan Shelstad’s shoulders to the canvas for a fall in 1:26 during 127-pound action to knot the team score at 12-all.

Colton Tolzmann countered for the Bucs by edging Seth Siebring by a 6-5 decision at 133 pounds before Evan Welcome triggered the Red Bulls’ string of four consecutive pins and seven out of the final eight matches.

Welcome needed just 47 seconds to flatten out Layden Bassett during their 139-pound clash before Red Bulls’ teammate Maddex Faber followed with a fall in 2:40 over Ethan Oppedal during 145-pound action.

Berent Kosbab kept Martin County’s pinning streak rolling by downing Emanuel Granillo in 21 seconds during 152-pound action, while Ty Kolbe earned the slap of the mat in 34 seconds over Blue Earth Area’s Caleb Langager from the 160-pound bracket.

Blue Earth Area’s Will Weerts countered by chalking up a 13-5 major decision over Caleb Chambers at 172 before Hunter Johnson righted Martin County’s ship with a fall in 1:48 over Tristan Tungland in 189-pound grappling action.

David Miller and Colby Schwichtenberg each capped the string of falls by needing just 42 and 46 seconds, respectively, to earn the slap of the mat at 215 and 285 pounds, respectively.

Martin County 107-pounder Brock Jagodzinske opened the dual meet by receiving a forfeit before Blue Earth Area’s Timmy Nagel received a forfeit at 114.

Drake Engelby then staked the Bucs to a 12-6 lead on the team ledger by pinning Adam Denson in 20 seconds.

The Red Bulls are idle until playing host to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Area and Le Sueur-Henderson in a triangular at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Cardinal Gym in Fairmont.

Blue Earth Area is idle until playing host to New Ulm Area in a 7 p.m. Big South Conference dual meet on Friday, Jan. 5, in Blue Earth.
