FAIRMONT — Hannah Cole, Lillie Schultz, Abi Chavez and Ava Thate produced a top-four sweep in the all-around competition to wrap up Martin County Area’s pre-Christmas schedule with a 131.725-120.975 triumph over the Windom Eagles.
Cole captured both the vault and uneven parallel bars to pace her first-place all-around point total of 34.825, while Schultz bested all floor exercise foes to fuel her runner-up overall mark of 32.075 during the Big South dual meet in Fairmont.
Abi Chavez and Ava Thate, who missed MCA’s previous meet due to illness and an injury, respectively, returned to the lineup at full strength to claim third and fourth in the all-around with solid scores of 32.05 and 31.675, respectively.
“We were healthy again and demonstrated what we can accomplish tonight,” said MCA head coach Anne Post. “We had 5 for 5 sticks on the (uneven) bars, so that’s a positive sign.”
Cole earned top individual honors by combining her tightly-spun giants on the high bar with her inward maneuver on both the high and low bars to garner an 8.75.
Jadyn Montgomery captured third with a 7.55 by making a smooth transition from the low to the high bar and turning a hip circle on the high bar for MCA.
Windom’s Kaden Paulson, who also tied Chavez for third place on the vault with an 8.55, claimed second place on the unevens with a 7.65-scored performance.
Chavez, Schultz and Thate rounded out the Magic’s error-free efforts on the unevens with a 7.45, a 7.325 and a 7.25, respectively.
Cole rotated and planted her first and only pike Tsuk off the vault table to pocket first with a 9.175, while Thate converted a quarter, three-quarter vault for a second-place mark of 8.575.
Schultz then triggered a top-three showing on the floor by turning a one-and-a-half to cap her initial tumbling sequence to help send the judges’ scorecards to a winning total of 8.85.
Cole and Chavez shared second-place accolades on the floor with a pair of 8.7s, while Windom’s Ashlyn Altman claimed third at 8.075.
Cole’s back handspring to an aerial connection on the balance beam highlighted her second-place mark of 8.2, while Magic teammate Adrianna Knafla combined three round-offs into a third-place score of 8.15. Windom’s Ada Lund won the beam with an 8.325.
“We still have some minor injuries to deal with, but we have a lengthy break over the holiday break to heal up,” said Post.
Martin County Area (4-1) is idle until traveling to Pipestone Thursday, Jan. 4.
