TRUMAN — Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther head basketball coach T.J. Pytleski played 10 girls on Monday night and each one reached the scoring column, grabbed a rebound and pocketed one of the Jaguars’ 31 steals.

Olivia Mattson produced a game-best double-double outing of 16 points and 11 rebounds to complement three assists to pace the balanced Jaguars’ 74-28 rout of the Madelia Blackhawks during Valley Conference action in Truman.

“It was great to see all 10 players make significant contributions in every statistical category across the board tonight,” said Pytleski. “What a way to celebrate Parents’ Night.”

Holding an early 9-6 lead after Madelia’s Corban Tatro sank two free throws, Mattson and Madisen Lewis proved the catalysts behind the Jaguars’ ensuing 14-2 offensive surge midway through the opening half.

Lewis threaded a pass to Mattson along the baseline and the Jaguar senior forward converted an ‘and-1′ play for three points. Londyn Bowers garnered a steal and drove the lane for two more home team points before Keira Benck converted one of her four thefts into a layup.

Mattson later found Bowers for an end-line leaner for two of her eight points off the Jaguars’ bench before Kendra Kirchner sank a 15-footer for the Blackhawks.

Mattson countered with her only 3-pointer off a Bowers pass before Keira Benck spotted Lewis cutting to the hoop via an inbound toss to widen the Jaguars’ margin to 23-8 with 7 minutes remaining before intermission.

Madelia’s Katherine DeVlaeminck later banked home two of her team-best 11 points with 3 1/2 minutes left before intermission only to see McKenna Benck trigger the Jaguars’ 12-0 run to close out the first segment ahead 41-14.

McKenna Benck, who netted 12 points to complement a defensive-best eight steals, sank a solo charity toss before Ayla Meixell fired an assist to Benck for a traditional 3-point play.

Bowers scooped home a twisting reverse layup, McKenna Benck cashed in a steal for a breakaway basket and then Benck swiped the basketball that led to Bowers’ putback basket. Bowers returned the favor to Geistfeld for a lay-in as time elapsed before halftime.

Ahead 48-18 in the second half, Mattson sank two free throws to trigger a 9-0 Jaguars’ scoring surge near the 13-minute juncture.

The Benck sisters worked their backcourt basketball-hawking defensive skills by pocketing three consecutive thefts to extend the lead to 39.

Pytleski turned over the final stretches of the game to his reserves and the fivesome of Brianna Petrowiak, Bowers, Geistfeld, Meixell and Eisley Emmert combined for a game-ending 14-0 offensive avalanche. The five Jaguars also combined for 24 points, 17 of the team’s 45 boards, 11 of the purple-and-white’s 31 steals and eight of 17 assists.

Lewis neared double-double territory with 11 points and seven rebounds to go with three steals for the Jaguars; Keira Benck supplied six points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists; while Bethany Petrowiak chipped in five points and three steals.

DeVlaeminck netted a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds for Madelia (0-6 overall), while Tatro finished with nine points and three assists.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther (6-2) is idle until facing Sibley East in a 5 p.m. nonconference game Thursday, Dec. 28, at Blue Earth Area High School gymnasium in Blue Earth.
