FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Dance Team literally kicked off its season by competing in a high kick and jazz invitational on Nov. 30 in St. James.

Fairmont’s junior varsity jazz team of Alyvia Anderson, Jaydan Moses, Allie Streit, Braelyn Miller, Season Kotewa, Jovie Rogge, Georgia Werre, Maddie Johnson and Emma Pockrus scored a 3 while performing to ‘Paint it Black’ to win the five-team division.

New Ulm placed second with 7, host St. James netted third with 11, Lakeview finished fourth with 12, while Glencoe-Silver was fifth at 13.

Fairmont’s varsity jazz lineup of Cadence Leiding, Bel Lutterman, Sydney Blomster, Kate Grogin, Emma Hilgendorf and Kendra Blomster won a tiebreaker with New Ulm to place third.

Glencoe-Silver Lake took first with 5.5, while Lakeview netted second with 6.

Fairmont and New Ulm each tallied 9.5s, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop finished fifth with 15, while host St. James finished sixth with 18.

Fairmont’s varsity high kick team of Cadence Leiding, Bel Lutterman, Sydney Blomster, Kate Grogin, Emma Hilgendorf, Kendra Blomster, Alyvia Anderson, Jaydan Moses, Allie Streit, Braelyn Miller, Georgia Werre, Maddie Johnson and Emma Pockrus tied with St. James for fifth with 16s.

Lakeview won the competition with a score of 3, New Ulm was the runner-up at 7, Glencoe-Silver Lake placed third with 9.5, while Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop nailed down fourth place with an 11.5.

The Fairmont Area Dance Team returns to action Saturday when it travels to Northfield for a 10 a.m. competition.
