Hanson, Artner pace Fairmont’s runner-up showings at Buc Invite

BLUE EARTH — Fairmont junior standout Macy Hanson is settling into her long-distance running rhythm and continued her winning ways on Tuesday.
Only five days after defending her I-90 Invitational individual championship at Cedar Park in Fairmont, Hanson crossed the finish line first in the Buc Invitational’s 5,000-meter race with a gold-medal time of 19:46.4.
Hanson paced Fairmont’s runner-up team showing of 54 to finish only 15 positional points behind Buc Invite girls champion Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey.
Kendra Blomster continued her top-10 performances for the Cardinals by capturing ninth place overall with a time of 22:47.6 to pack solid scoring punch to complement Hanson’s effort.
Carys Gudahl contributed a 12th-place time of 23:20.9 to Fairmont’s performance, Gwyneth Schultz netted 15th in 23:47.5, while Brooklyn Stone completed the counting marks in 17th place in 24:24.3.
Paige DeBoer (30th in 26:59.2), Rylee Maday (33rd in 28:10.6) and Elizabeth Hart (35th in 28:35.3 completed the Cardinals’ overall effort.
Aubrey Woodwick nailed down fifth place overall with a time of 21:53.7 to top host BEA’s fourth-place team total of 93, while teammate Sidney Eitzmann contributed a 10th-place showing of 22:48.2.
In the boys division, Kody Wassman and Zach Klassen produced a respective 1-3 showing in 16:27.9 and 17:18.6 to power MLAC to a 35-53 victory over Fairmont.
Gavin Artner and Brier Lenort generated top-10 performances for Fairmont, with Artner claiming fifth overall in 17:29.2, while Lenort captured the 10th spot with a time of 18:16.9.
The Cardinals then displayed their traditional ‘pack-running’ style as Cooper Gudahl, Braydon Lindsay, Jaydon Putney and Andrew Haugen crossed the finish line in 11th, 13th, 14th and 15th places, respectively. Gudahl posted a time of 18:27.5, Lindsay checked his watch at 18:42.2, Putney followed in the scoring order with an 18:44.7, while Haugen netted an 18:45.4.
Landon Weber (23rd, 19:28.22), Will Niestrath (24th, 19:35.8) and Isaac Stone (20:38.4) completed the Cardinals’ effort.
Brady Lorenz captured 22nd place overall by crossing the wire in 19:21.9 to top host BEA’s fifth-place boys’ team showing of 148.
Fairmont and Blue Earth Area compete in the Big South Conference Meet next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Marshall Country Club.
