St. Peter girls tennis posts 5-2 win over B.E. Area

ST. PETER — The St. Peter Saints girls tennis team beat the Blue Earth Area Bucs 5-2 in a Big South Conference contest on Tuesday in St. Peter.

The Saints were able to win three of four singles matches, and pulled off wins in two out of the three doubles matches to earn the team victory.

The Bucs were able to win at No. 1 doubles as Olivia Dutton and Grace Hanson beat Zetta Haugen and Kylie Southworth, 6-2, 6-1.

However, the Saints turned around their fortunes at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.

Kali Erickson and Nora Whipps defeated Ashlyn Klinkner and Carol Schrader, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles, while the No. 3 doubles team of Ella Dirks and Natalie Salfer defeated Addison Prescher and Erin Prescher 7-6, (7-2), 6-1.

The Bucs were able to win two of the four singles matches.

Addison Armstrong won two tough sets against Annika Southworth, winning 7-6 (9-7), 6-4, at the No. 1 singles spot.

Rhyan Holmgren of St. Peter won her No. 2 singles match by beating Lauren Survis, 6-0, 6-1, while at No. 3 singles, Saints’ Madison Kamm beat Mckinley Hanson, 6-0, 6-0.

Brielle Romasiewicz of St. Peter won at No. 4 singles, beating Abbey Lorenz, 6-3, 6-0.

Blue Earth Area travels to New Ulm to battle the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. today, while St. Peter travels to Fairmont today for a 4:30 p.m. start.
