Fairmont 18U, 16U softball combine for three wins
FAIRMONT — The Fairmont 18U girls fastpitch softball team utilized stellar pitching performances to sweep a doubleheader from Nicollet on Thursday night at Hands Park.
Right-hander Mandy Pytleski demonstrated outstanding command of her pitches by recording a game-best 11 strikeouts without issuing a walk to help pace Fairmont’s opening 5-3 triumph over Nicollet.
Pytleski allowed just two hits and three runs — all unearned — in five innings of work to earn the complete-game victory.
Nevaeh Rahm pounded out a pair of hits to trigger Fairmont’s offensive performance.
Rahm then displayed her pitching skills from inside the chalked circle during Fairmont’s 14-0, three-inning run-ruled rout over Nicollet in Game 2.
Rahm notched seven strikeouts, did not issue a walk and allowed one hit in three scoreless innings pitched to earn the victory.
Pytleski drilled a double and a triple to put a charge in Fairmont’s offensive effort, while Rahm smacked a triple.
Abi Sundeen, Tiffany Lowry and Ashley Muller each collected hits for Fairmont in the nightcap, while teammate Emma Gudahl scored three runs.
Fairmont 18U travels to Blue Earth on Thursday for a 6 p.m. contest.

Lowry contributed a triple and a single to Fairmont’s offensive attack, Saige Leiding connected for a double, while Ava Terfehr supplied a single.
Gabby Leiding allowed one unearned run, struck out five and issued one walk in three innings of relief to earn the victory for Fairmont.
Miller started inside the pitching circle, allowing two runs — one earned — while striking out seven and issuing only one walk in four innings of work to receive a no-decision.
