No. 1 Fairmont baseball downs Redwood Valley, 11-4

REDWOOD FALLS — Class AA No. 1-ranked Fairmont tuned up for the Big South Conference baseball championship game by disposing of Redwood Valley, 11-4, during regular-season diamond action Friday in Redwood Falls.
Levi Pooley and Jack Kosbab combined for four hits — including three for extra bases — and seven RBIs to engineer Fairmont’s 11-hit performance.
Pooley, who went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, drilled a pivotal triple to highlight Fairmont’s three-run top of the fifth inning to snap a 3-all tie.
Kosbab, who went 2-for-3 with a game-best four RBIs, hammered his second double of the game with the bases loaded to trigger Fairmont’s three-run top of the sixth inning en route to a 9-3 lead.
Pooley also scored two runs, while teammate Lincoln Becker went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored for Fairmont.
Landen Meyerdirk went 2-for-5 with a run scored, Joseph Hackett went 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Nate Soelter doubled in four at-bats to complement scoring two runs for Fairmont.
Becker recorded two strikeouts and did not issue a walk in pitching two shutout and hitless innings of relief to earn the winning decision for Fairmont.
Josh Soelter gave up one unearned run, struck out three and did not issue a walk in two hitless relief innings to earn the save for Fairmont.
Meyerdirk started on the mound and gave up three earned runs on two hits, walked five and fanned one in three innings of work to receive a no-decision for Fairmont.
Fairmont (15-1) plays host to Luverne at 1 p.m. today for the outright Big South Conference championship at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont.
Starting pitcher Joe Long and closer Cole Brockmann combined to throw a two-hit shutout to steer Fairmont to a 6-0 triumph over Redwood Valley during junior varsity action Friday.
Long recorded a game-best 10 strikeouts, issued two walks and allowed one hit in five scoreless innings pitched to earn the win. Brockmann struck out two, walked one and gave up one hit in two shutout innings of relief.
Nolan Anderson doubled twice to drive in one run and scored once for Fairmont, while Tyler Bicknase went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Trevor Maakestad and Nolyn Goerndt each singled home one run for Fairmont.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman 4, Madelia 3 — Ashlyn Cook’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh forced extra innings before Ella Nagorske’s bases-loaded walk plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th to propel the Jaguars past the Blackhawks during a Valley Conference Showcase game on Friday at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
Londyn Bowers went 3-for-5 with a double and one run scored for the Jaguars, while teammate Keira Benck went 2-for-5 with a double.
Mandy Pytleski, Addison Sill and Madisen Lewis contributed one hit apiece to the Jaguars’ winning ways.
Pytleski fired a four-hit gem in a yeoman’s 10-inning stint to earn the complete-game win for the Jaguars. Pytleski recorded six strikeouts without issuing a walk and allowed three unearned runs.
The Jaguars travel to Cleveland on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. first-round Section 2A playoff game against the hometown Clippers.
