WELCOME -- Madelia leadoff hitter Eric Anderson set the tone offensively, going 3-for-3 with two walks to lead the Blackhawks baseball team to an 11-4 Valley Conference win over the Martin County West Mavericks on Tuesday at the Fox Lake Sports Complex.
Madelia struck for three runs in the top of the first and sent 10 batters to the plate in the third inning, scoring six times, to build a 9-0 lead.
It was 11-0 before MCW pushed across two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to break the shutout.
Lucas Larson's infield hit started MCW's fifth at-bat before Riley Kascht walked. Raef Omvig singled home Larson before Cody Potts delivered an RBI ground out.
In the Mavericks' sixth, Isaac Olson walked and courtesy runner Jesus Morales scored on Larson's double. After a walk, Omvig drove in the Mavericks' final run on a ground out.
Larson and Zach Anderson each had two hits to pace the Mavericks, while Omvig singled to drive in a team-high two runs.
Madelia's Dylan Grev earned the win by going five innings. Grev gave up two earned runs, three hits, two walks and struck out one. Evan Coil pitched the final two innings, giving up two runs, two hits, no walks and did not strike out a hitter.
Kascht was the losing pitcher for the Mavericks, pitching three-plus innings. Kascht gave up 11 runs -- nine earned -- on nine hits, four walks and did not strike out a batter. Isaac Olson pitched four innings and did not give up a run, yielded two hits, hit one batter and did not record a strikeout.
Mavericks' starting catcher Cam Meyer left the game when he was spiked in the hand tagging out Madelia's Tate Becker on a flip from Kascht in the first inning. He returned later in the game, but did not play.
Next for the Mavericks (6-5) is a 4:30 p.m. home tilt Thursday against Blue Earth Area at the Fox Lake Sports Complex.
