Henderson, Von Bank medal to pace North Union golfers

BANCROFT, Iowa — North Union freshman Drew Henderson and Warrior senior Olivia Von Bank continued their low-scoring ways during Iowa high school golf action Friday.

Henderson captured individual medalist honors by carding a nine-hole round of 41 to help power the Warriors to a one-stroke victory over the Estherville-Lincoln Central Midgets during triangular play at the North Kossuth Golf Club in Bancroft, Iowa.

North Union posted a first-place team total of 182, ELC netted second with a 183, while Algona High placed third with 197.

Henderson birdied the par-4 ninth hole to highlight his 5-over round. The Warrior freshman phenom also sank three pars.

Chase Cummins generated a round of 43 to earn runner-up accolades for North Union. Cummins connected for a team-best four pars on the triangular.

Teagon Fothergill sank two pars to engineer his round of 47 for the Warriors, while teammate Cole Nicoson chipped in a 51, including one par.

Caden Walders chalked up one par to pace a round of 54 for the Warriors, while Carter Martens added a 65.

Bradyn Karsten and Cael Miller each penciled in nine-hole marks of 44 to top ELC’s effort, while Clay Hanson and Blake Evans shot a 46 and a 49, respectively, to cap its counting scores.

Carter Ingvall (50) and Carter Rasmussen (51) rounded out the Midgets’ performance.

John Cox shot a team-low 45 for Algona, while Harrison Waltz contributed a 49. Sam Schutjer and Ryan Weier carded a 51 and a 52, respectively, to cap the counting marks.

Drew Schutjer (58) and Austin Steenhoek (59) completed Algona’s effort.

In the girls’ competition, Von Bank fired a 6-over nine-hole round of 42 to claim top individual honors by four shots on the Bancroft-based course.

Von Bank’s low-scoring ways helped North Union net a tie for second place with Algona at 214 during Friday’s triangular.

Amelia Fothergill contributed a round of 47 to the host Warriors’ performance, Aliyah Jones fired a 60 and Hannah Nielsen chipped in a 65.

Delanie Rezac penciled in a team-best 48 to steer ELC to a winning team score of 208, while Hannah Paulson contributed a round of 50.

Alyssa Hansen tallied a 52, while Emily Paulson supplied a 58 to cap the counting marks of the Midgets.

Mary Carlin (58) and Kaylyn Domek (61) rounded out ELC’s performance.

Faith Zeller fired a runner-up medalist mark of 46 to pace Algona’s tie for runner-up team honors, while Lainey Venteicher supplied a 52.

Abby Brooks and Faith Huber generated a 56 and a 60, respectively, to complete the counting scores.

Carley Nielson (64) and Morgan Kelly (68) rounded out Algona’s performance.

North Union is scheduled to travel to Britt, Iowa, today for a 4:15 p.m. triangular against North Iowa and host West Hancock — weather permitting.
