B.E. Area shuts out Redwood Valley in tennis meet

REDWOOD FALLS — The Blue Earth Area Bucs swept both the singles and doubles brackets to net a 7-0 victory over the Redwood Valley Cardinals during a Big South tennis meet Thursday in Redwood Falls.

Joe Frundt served a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Andrew Muetzel during first singles action to stake the Bucs to an early lead before Jamie Johnson coasted to a 6-0, 6-3 victory over the Cardinals’ Kanyon Hicks at the third spot in the lineup.

BEA’s Brady Lorenz outslugged Cole Johnson in their No. 2 singles match’s opening set, 7-5, before rolling to a 6-0 second-set win, while Devin Haase capped the bracket sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Zach Lundeen at the No. 4 position.

Ryder Dutton and Gustavo Chavero teamed at No. 1 doubles to outduel the Cardinals’ Jose Davilla and Evan Cooper in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0.

Seth Mathews and Mitchell Stevermer posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ben Jorgenson and Yzykizl Rendon at second doubles, while Noah Hanson and Mateaus Sanchez capped the Bucs’ team shutout with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Brianna Tucker and Kiki Goodthunder at third doubles.

Blue Earth Area (1-1) plays host to Luverne at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
