Tordsen, Pooley engineer Fairmont’s showcase hoops win

WASECA — Sawyer Tordsen produced a double-double and teammate Levi Pooley just missed matching the feat to power the Fairmont Cardinals to a 66-47 triumph over the St. James Area Saints during Big South Conference Showcase regular-season basketball action Saturday in Waseca.

Tordsen generated 17 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, while Pooley netted a game-best 19 points to complement garnering nine boards.

David Maakestad scored 10 points and distributed five assists for Fairmont, which made 28 of 61 field goals, including just 4 of 17 from 3-point range.

Tordsen and Pooley paced the Cardinals’ 40-31 rebounding edge over the Saints.

Alex Stresemann netted 15 points to top the Saints.

Fairmont (7-17), the No. 7 seed in the Section 3AA, South Sub-Section tournament, travels to No. 2-seeded Pipestone Area for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal on Saturday night.

St. James Area (8-17) travels to Edgerton tonight for a regular-season game.

Redwood Valley 77, Blue Earth Area 54 — Lukas Means buried a game-leading seven 3-pointers to generate a game-high 27 points to steer the Cardinals to a 23-point Big South Conference Showcase triumph over the Bucs on Saturday in Waseca.

Ashton Lloyd neared a double-double performance for Blue Earth Area by netting 14 points and cleaning the glass for nine rebounds.

Max Loge generated nine points for the Bucs, while teammate Gage Barker chipped in eight points.

Austin Skaden collected eight points, pocketed five steals and distributed four assists for Blue Earth Area, while Will Bromeland scored seven points.

The Bucs connected on 19 of 65 field goals, including 8 of 36 from behind the 3-point line, to go with an 8-for-12 effort at the free throw line.

Blue Earth Area (13-8) plays host to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in a regular-season finale on Thursday night.

Redwood Valley improved to 12-14 overall on the season.
