Mavericks, Jaguars post regular-season hoops wins

NORTHROP — Jakob Fischer and Peyton Franzen combined for 42 points to power the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars to a 69-59 victory over Cedar Mountain during non-league basketball action Friday night in Northrop.

Fischer tossed in a game-best 22 points to complement five rebounds and four assists, while Franzen netted 20 points to go with five rebounds and three steals.

Carter Fox scored 13 points, distributed six assists and grabbed four rebounds for the Jaguars, while teammate Jackson Madsen contributed seven points and doled out four assists.

The Jaguars built a 38-28 halftime lead before staying even with Cedar Mountain during the final 18 minutes.

The Jaguars (13-11) close out the regular season by traveling to New Ulm Cathedral on Monday night.

Martin County West 69, Alden-Conger 50 — Zach Anderson erupted for a game-leading double-double performance to stampede the Mavericks to a 19-point Valley Conference victory over the Knights on Friday night in Sherburn.

Anderson poured in a game-best 31 points and yanked down an incredible 16 rebounds to complement distributing four assists for MCW.

Mitchell Weber scored 14 points for the Mavericks, while Hunter Schmidt netted eight points.

Wyatt Williamson contributed six points and seven rebounds to MCW’s winning ways.

Anderson and Williamson paced the Mavericks’ 47-38 rebounding advantage.

Martin County West (15-11) awaits the official announcement for the seedings for the Section 2A, South Sub-Section playoffs on Monday.
