Cardinal hockey teams lose pair on the road

ST. PAUL – Gracia Munoz generated a game-best four goals and added one assist to power the Visitation Blazers to a 9-1 non-league girls hockey victory over the Fairmont Area Cardinals on Friday at the St. Thomas University ice arena.

Abi Hemauer contributed two goals and two helpers to the Blazers’ winning ways, while Caroline Doran supplied two goals.

Bella Larson delivered the Cardinals’ only goal off an assist from Jozie Hoefker only 19 seconds into the game.

Hadley Artz recorded 19 saves between the pipes for Fairmont Area, while Visitation goalie Cadence Cooper stopped 12 shots to earn the win.

Fairmont Area (4-15-3) travels to Luverne on Tuesday night for a 5:30 p.m. Big South Conference game.

Boys Hockey

Rochester Lourdes 8, Fairmont Area 2 — AJ Ritter connected for a hat trick and one helper to guide the Eagles to the nonconference victory over the Cardinals on Friday night in Rochester.

Ritter generated two of Lourdes’ four power-play goals out of five chances on the clash.

Colton Rich contributed two goals to the Eagles’ triumph, while goalie Xander Carter-Kleven made 23 saves to earn the win.

Brock Lutterman produced a power-play goal for the Cardinals, while teammate Nate Rakness added a goal.

Carson Johnson made 28 stops for Fairmont Area (6-14), which travels to Luverne on Tuesday night.
