Anderson, MCW sink 3-pointers to slip by St. James Area

ST. JAMES — The Martin County West Mavericks outlasted the St. James Area Saints in a 3-point shootout during nonconference basketball action Monday night in St. James.

The Saints made 10 treys and the Mavericks sank seven to produce 85 first-half points, with St. James Area clinging to a 44-41 edge.

MCW, however, continued its hot shooting ways from behind the 3-point arc, connecting on eight more to capture an 80-75 victory over St. James.

Zach Anderson connected for a game-best six 3s en route to scoring a career-best 36 points for the Mavericks, while Hunter Schmidt hit five 3s for 15 points and Mitchell Weber sank three more to pace a 20-point outing.

Anderson grabbed 10 rebounds to complete his double-double, while also distributing five assists, making three steals and blocking three shots for MCW.

Weber doled out a game-best eight assists, Schmidt doled out three helpers and Jamesson Forsberg pulled down six rebounds.

The Mavericks made 16 of 34 from 2-point distance and 15 of 32 behind the arc.

Anthony Sletta made five of the Saints’ 12 3s en route to a team-best 19 points, while teammate Alex Streseman netted 18 points.

Martin County West (7-7) plays host to Nicollet on Thursday night in Sherburn.

Windom Area 72, Blue Earth Area 71 — Drew Rothenberger produced 18 points and eight rebounds, while Greyson Elder made five 3-pointers en route to a 15-point effort to help the Eagles squeeze out a one-point Big South Conference win over the Bucs on Monday night in Blue Earth.

Ashton Lloyd, who garnered a double-double performance of 18 points and 10 rebounds, hit a 3-pointer during the waning seconds of regulation to pull the Bucs within one.

Will Bromeland scored 15 points for BEA, Gage Barker tossed in 13 points, while Max Loge neared double-double territory by collecting nine points and 10 boards.

Abram Kokos tallied eight points for the Bucs, Jack Norman produced six points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Austin Skaden doled out three assists.

Abe Mckibbin netted 14 points and nine boards for the Eagles, while Henry Erickson neared rare triple-double territory by scoring 12 points to complement dishing out a game-high nine assists and grabbing eight rebounds.

Blue Earth Area (8-4) plays host to Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Friday night.

Girls Basketball

Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 54, United South Central 33 — McKenna Benck generated 13 points and pocketed five steals to guide the Jaguars to a 21-point non-league win over the Rebels on Monday night in Northrop.

Bethany Petrowiak produced solid all-around numbers of eight points, four assists, four steals and four rebounds for the Jaguars, while Madisen Lewis tossed in eight points.

Olivia Mattson supplied seven points and three blocks to the Jaguars’ winning ways, while Brianna Petrowiak added six points and nine boards.

The Jaguars (8-3) travel to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial tonight for a conference game.
