No. 8 Red Bulls grapple to wins at triangular
WORTHINGTON — The Class AA No. 8-ranked Martin County Red Bulls improved to 7-0 on the dual-meet wrestling season by sweeping a triangular on Friday night in Worthington.
The Red Bulls stampeded their way to a 61-12 triumph over Fulda/ Murray County Central and disposed of the host Worthington Trojans by a 48-19 margin.
Pierce Rohman posted a 16-4 major decision over Fulda/ MCC’s Kaston Clarke during 106-pound action before Red Bull teammates Torrey Paplow and Maddex Faber delivered back-to-back falls. Paplow earned the slap of the mat in 4:33 over Brayden Gilb at 113, while Faber pressed Teague Meyer’s shoulders to the canvas in 3:57 at 120 for a quick 16-0 team lead.
Berent Kosbab then triggered nine-match winning avalanche for Martin County by posting a 12-4 major decision over Lucas Kuball at 132.
Riley Cole pinned Denver Ash in 4:50 during 138-pound action, while Aden Welcome coasted to a 19-8 major decision over Aiden Lorenzen at 145 for the Red Bulls.
Cooper Steuber doubled up Quinten Lewis by a 10-5 decision at 152 before Taylor Austin and No. 3-ranked 160-pounder Carver Rohman received back-to-back forfeits at 160 and 170, respectively, for Martin County.
Gage Cyphers rolled to a 12-0 major decision over Carson Klein during 182-pound action, David Miller took a forfeit at 195, while No. 3-ranked 220-pounder Max Olson needed only 1:16 to pin Colby Kesteloot at light heavyweight to cap the Red Bulls’ scoring stampede against Fulda/MCC.
Once again, Pierce Rohman set the early scoring tone for the Red Bulls by pinning Worthington’s Saul Galvez in 3:32 at the opening 106 spot.
Faber later chipped in a 9-1 major decision over Dalton Larson at 120, while Cole received a forfeit during 138-pound action for Martin County.
Welcome delivered a key six-point decision by needing only 36 seconds to pin Moo Bleh at 145 for the Red Bulls, while Steuber produced a 14-3 major decision over Miat Htoo during 152-pound action.
Carver Rohman coasted to a 20-9 major decision over Chase Byrne at 170 pounds, while Cyphers needed only 1:51 to earn a fall over Eh Day Htoo at 182.
Olson and Colby Schwichtenberg closed out the Red Bulls’ 29-point team decision over Worthington with back-to-back pins.
Olson needed a mere 8 seconds to flatten Dylan Sholes at 220, while Schwichtenberg earned a fall in 3:11 over Kasey Gerhard at heavyweight.
The Red Bulls (7-0) compete in the Tri-City United Invitational at 9:30 a.m. today.
