Blue Earth Area sinks late FTs, nips JCC by 2

JACKSON — Austin Skaaden and Jack Norman combined for three free throws during the waning seconds of regulation to propel the Blue Earth Area Bucs to a 65-63 victory over the Jackson County Central Huskies during Big South Conference basketball action Saturday night in Jackson.

With 30 seconds remaining in the second half, Skaaden sank two free throws to give Blue Earth Area a 64-61 lead before Roman Voss hit a putback with 9 seconds remaining to inch JCC within one.

Norman was fouled and hit the first free throw with 4 seconds to go for a two-point lead before the Huskies’ last-second long-distance attempt missed the mark.

Norman finished with nine points, four rebounds and three assists for BEA, while Skaaden contributed five points, four steals and three assists.

Will Bromeland connected on 7 of 11 field goals to produce 16 points to pace a balanced Bucs’ attack, while teammate Gage Barker netted 14 points.

Ashton Lloyd neared double-double territory by scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds to complement four assists and three steals for BEA.

Voss delivered 16 points, five boards and four assists for the Huskies, while Travis Rogotzke collected 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Christian Benda supplied 15 points for JCC, while Erik Hesebek chipped in 11 points and five rebounds.

Blue Earth Area (2-0) plays host to Martin County West on Thursday night. Jackson County Central (0-1) hosts MCW tonight in Jackson.

North Union 73, North Iowa 52 — The Warriors outscored the Bison 26-6 during the third quarter to break open a three-point game at halftime during Iowa prep hoops Friday night in Buffalo Center.

Aiden Lofstrom delivered a team-best 19 points and grabbed six rebounds for North Union, while teammate Kyan Jones produced 17 points and pocketed six steals.

Grady Madden sank three trifectas to pace a 13-point performance for the Warriors and also distributed a team-best five assists.

Logan Odegaard generated a double-double effort of 10 points and a game-best 11 rebounds for North Union, Danyal Fothergill netted eight points and three assists, while Preston Guerdet doled out three assists.

North Union (2-0) plays host to Estherville-Lincoln Central tonight in Armstrong.
