Fairmont 12U girls hockey opens season with 2 wins

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont 12U girls hockey team opened the season with back-to-back wins at Martin County Arena last weekend in Fairmont.

Goalie Alexis Sundeen tallied seven saves to net the shutout to engineer Fairmont’s 5-0 triumph over Luverne last Saturday.

Kennedy Murphy and Lauren Bettin each lit the lamp to stake Fairmont to a 2-0 first-period lead. Halyn Haycraft and Mariel Parish delivered the respective assists for the home team.

Bettin tallied her second goal of the game off a Lexi Haycraft assist to extend the lead to 3-0 after two frames.

Halyn Haycraft then assisted Parish’s goal before capping the scoring with an unassisted score during the third.

Parish produced a game-best hat trick and Halyn Haycraft netted two goals to power Fairmont to an 8-2 win over Worthington last Sunday in Fairmont.

Evelyn Folkerts delivered one goal and an assist for the home team, Kynlee Beemer and Bettin scored goals, while Maya Earhart and Kylie Flanagan doled out one assist apiece.

Sundeen tallied 22 saves for Fairmont (2-0), which competes in the Blaine tournament Friday through Sunday.

PeeWee ‘B’

Worthington managed to outscore Fairmont, 5-3, during season-opening PeeWee ‘B’ hockey action last Saturday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Kane Wohlhuter netted a first-period goal for Fairmont, teammate Tyler Pankow converted Ian Obernolte’s pass into a goal, while Preston Geerdes chipped in a goal with 12 seconds remaining in the second period.

Netminder Kolton Hinz turned away 16 shots on goal for Fairmont.
