Fairmont tennis nets No. 2 seed in sectional

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Cardinals and the Blue Earth Area Bucs each netted first-round home girls tennis meets in Section 2A Team Meet action starting Monday.

No. 2-seeded Fairmont opens the sectional team quarterfinals by playing host to No. 7-seeded United South Central at 4:30 p.m. at the Cardinal Courts, while No. 3-seeded Blue Earth Area squares off against No. 6-seeded River Valley at 4:30 p.m. at Hal Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth.

No. 5-seeded Redwood Valley travels to Mapleton for a 4:30 p.m. sectional team quarterfinal against No. 4-seeded Maple River on Monday.

The Redwood Valley-Maple River winner advances to play No. 1-seeded St. James — which earned a first-round tournament bye — in a 9 a.m. sectional semifinal on Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Swanson Tennis Center on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus in St. Peter.

The Fairmont-United South Central winner plays the winner between Blue Earth Area and River Valley in an 11 a.m. sectional semifinal Thursday at Gustavus Adolphus.

The Section 2A team championship meet is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at GAC in St. Peter.
