Cardinal tennis deflects Arrows, 5-2

PIPESTONE — The Fairmont Cardinals swept the doubles division to help pace a 5-2 victory over the Pipestone Area Arrows during Big South Conference tennis action Monday in Pipestone.
Solveig Senf and Emelia Klanderud combined skills at No. 3 doubles to coast to a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Pipestone Area’s Addison Draper and Laura Minet.
Fairmont’s Lilly Laven and Paige Linse teamed at second doubles to match Senf and Klanderud in losing only a total of four games en route to a 6-3, 6-1 winning decision over Alicia Haack and Vivian Brockberg.
Anika Haugen and Johanna Petschke capped the Cardinals’ doubles bracket sweep by netting a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Alyssa Enger and Madison Purdin at the No. 1 position in the lineup.
Elly Stegge claimed one of Fairmont’s two team tallies in the singles division by posting a 6-2, 6-4 winning performance over Jenna Boeke at the No. 3 spot in the lineup.
Madi Peyman generated the Cardinals’ other point in singles action, outslugging Jasmine Boeke by a 7-5, 6-4 decision at the No. 4 spot in the bracket.
Toryn Woelber claimed a singles point for Pipestone Area by outlasting Abi Peyman in a 7-6 (8-6), 0-6, (10-7) slugfest at the No. 1 position.
Brielle Kulm pocketed the Arrows’ other team tally by serving back-to-back 6-2 set losses to Brynn Gustafson at second singles.
Fairmont (10-6) travels to Sleepy Eye today to face River Valley in a 4:30 p.m. non-league dual meet before hitting the road to St. Peter on Thursday for a league dual.
