ST. PETER -- Sophia Doherty produced four hits and four RBIs to help power the St. Peter Saints to a Big South Conference softball doubleheader sweep over the Fairmont Cardinals on Tuesday in St. Peter.
Doherty went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while teammate Maya Pettis hurled a four-hit complete-game shutout to engineer St. Peter's 5-0 opening victory over Fairmont.
Doherty continued her hot-hitting ways during the nightcap, going 2-for-4 with two more RBIs and scored two runs as the Saints generated 11 total hits to trigger a 9-3 victory over the Cardinals for the seasonal sweep.
Pettis held Fairmont's bats in check during Game 1 by recording six strikeouts without issuing a walk in seven innings pitched to earn the victory.
Lilly Ruffin duplicated Doherty's offensive line in the boxscore by going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the opener.
Anna Ehlert collected two of Fairmont's four hits in Game 1, while Emma Gudahl and Nevaeh Rahm contributed one singles apiece.
Allison Janssen started inside the chalked circle for the Cardinals and allowed five runs -- three earned -- on six hits, walked one and did not record a strikeout in six innings of work to take the opening loss.

Martin County West 15-10, Madelia 5-5 -- Thea Anderson erupted for five hits, including four doubles, and collected five RBIs to pace the Mavericks' 15-5 and 10-5 doubleheader sweep over the Blackhawks during Valley Conference action Tuesday night in Madelia.
Emily Anderson produced three hits and a game-best five RBIs for MCW in Game 1, while teammate Ivy Kokoruda collected three hits -- including a double -- and drove in two runs.
Lina Arnold generated three hits, Paige Anderson doubled twice en route to two RBIs, Taylor Elliott collected two RBIs on two hits, while Brianna Morrow contributed one hit and one RBI in Game 1.
Arnold allowed five runs on six hits, struck out four and walked two in five innings pitched to earn the opening complete-game win for the Mavericks, who pounded out 17 hits in the opener.

Martin County West 2, Mankato Loyola 1 -- Zach Anderson fired a two-hit complete-game gem and Wyatt Williamson singled in the decisive run to steer the Mavericks to a one-run Valley Conference victory over the Crusaders on Tuesday in Welcome.
Anderson, who pitched a perfect game through four innings, allowed one unearned run on just two hits in seven innings of work to earn the win. Anderson displayed stellar command of the strike zone by recording eight strikeouts without issuing a walk.
Anderson also singled, later stole third base and scored the Mavericks' initial run in the bottom of the first inning on a Crusader error.
Christian Bachenberg, who went 2-for-3, scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run on Williamson's RBI single in the home half of the third. Kain Sanders added a hit for MCW.
Martin County West (5-4) travels to Nicollet on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. conference game.
