North Union’s Von Bank merits medalist honors

LAKE MILLS, Iowa — North Union junior standout Olivia Von Bank earned meet medalist honors by carding a first-place nine-hole total of 45 during a Top of Iowa Conference golf triangular on Thursday.

Von Bank connected for a pair of pars on the par-3 15th hole and the par-5 17th hole to highlight her individual winning ways at the Rice Lake Golf and Country Club course in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Hannah Nielsen netted an 81 for North Union, which had an incomplete team.

Kenna Vanek penciled in a runner-up medalist round of 56 to guide the host Bulldogs to a 17-stroke dual-meet team triumph — 241-258 — over the North Iowa Bison.

Claire Levine tallied a 59, Madison Levine netted a 61, Sophia Nelson supplied a 65, while Jolie Rice chipped in a 67 for Lake Mills’ winning performance.

Laura Wubben topped North Iowa’s effort by tallying a 57, Abi Larsen produced a 58, Jasmel Pachecho netted a 70, while Eden Greensky added a 73.

In the boys portion of Thursday’s conference triangular, Bennett Berger shot a 2-over-par 37 to power Lake Mills to a first-place team total of 158 at Rice Lake Golf and Country Club.

Parker Eichenberger earned a share of third place overall to close with a 40 to pace North Union’s runner-up team score of 176, while Logan Knudson shot a round of 43 to top North Iowa’s third-place team total of 194.

Nick Schiltz finished in a tie for fifth individually by producing a nine-hole score of 42 for North Union, while Chase Cummins and Teagon Fothergill contributed respective totals of 45 and 49.

Danyal Fothergill and Carter Martens recorded a 52 and a 57, respectively, to cap the Warriors’ effort.

Denton Kingland (39), Garrett Ham (40) and Austin Stene (42) rounded out Lake Mills’ winning team effort. Kingland claimed runner-up medalist honors, Ham tied Eichenberger for third place, while Stene shared fifth place with Schiltz.

North Union boys and girls play host to Belmond-Klemme and Lake Mills at 4:15 p.m. Monday at Country Greens Golf Course in Armstrong.

Alden-Conger 261, Madelia 264 — Emma Kleinschrodt connected for three pars to pace her medalist-winning nine-hole round of 53 to squeeze the Knights past the Blackhawks by three strokes during a Valley Conference dual meet Thursday at Oakview Golf Course.

Savannah Wyman collected runner-up medalist honors by firing a 57 to top Madelia’s performance, while teammate Hannah Grebenc generated a 67 to place fourth overall.

Katherine DeVlaeminck carded a 69, while Genesis Robles Moran chipped in a 71 to complete the Blackhawks’ counting totals.

Kate Bocock and Alicia Grebenc rounded out Madelia’s effort by netting a 76 and an 80, respectively.

Ella Riebe penciled in a third-place total of 61 for Alden-Conger, Madyson Stein generated a 69, while Emelia Jacobs recorded a 78 to cap the counting marks.

Madelia plays host to Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther, Mountain Lake Area and Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Tuesday.

Boys Golf

Alden-Conger 180, Madelia 207 — Ryker Erickson and Parker Hintz delivered a respective 1-2 individual finish to propel the Knights to a 27-shot triumph over the Blackhawks during Valley Conference dual action Thursday in Madelia.

Ryker Erickson claimed the gold medal by carding a nine-hole round of 43, highlighted by three pars, while Parker Hintz finished one shot back at 44 to pocket second place overall. Hintz birdied the par-4 seventh hole to complement three pars.

Josiah DeMaris garnered third place overall by penciling in a 46 to top Madelia’s scoring charts. DeMaris drained a birdie on the par-4 third hole and added a par on No. 8.

Cross Schmidt produced the Blackhawks’ second counting score by netting a 47, while Andrew Peterson and Noah Tierney followed with respective totals of 51 and 53. Schmidt, Peterson and Tierney each chalked up one par.

Trey Missling and and Luke Stensrud capped the Blackhawks’ performance by firing a 55 and a 57, respectively. Stensrud made one par.

Ryan Hintz and Mayson Grunzke generated a 46 and a 47, respectively, to round out Alden-Conger’s counting marks. Hintz delivered one par, while Grunzke connected for two pars.

Madelia plays host to Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther, Mountain Lake Area and Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Tuesday.
