WELCOME -- Zach Anderson and Christian Bachenberg generated two hits apiece to help engineer the Martin County West Mavericks' season-opening 14-8 non-league baseball victory over the Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey Wolverines on Monday in Welcome.

Anderson produced a game-leading four RBIs on the strength of a 2-for-4 hitting performance and added one run scored.

Bachenberg also went 2-for-4 from the batter's box, crossed the plate twice and drove in one run for the Mavericks.

Wyatt Williamson also wielded lethal lumber by collecting three RBIs on the power of one hit, while Martin County West teammate Brice Enter doubled in his only official at-bat to bring home two runs.

Riley Kascht drew three walks and scored four runs for the Mavericks, while teammate Lucas Larson supplied four drawn walks and one run scored.

Anderson started on the mound for MCW, allowing four runs -- two earned -- on four hits in three innings of work. The junior right-hander struck out five and issued two walks en route to receiving a no-decision.

Jesse Potts gave up two runs -- both unearned -- on three hits in three innings of relief to net the winning decision. Potts recorded three strikeouts without issuing a walk.

The game was played at Fox Lake Sports Complex in Welcome due to unplayable diamond conditions in Mountain Lake, but the Wolverines still were the home team on the scoreboard.
