Odegaard, Warriors bust Broncos in conference hoops game

ARMSTRONG — Logan Odegaard found his shooting rhythm during Tuesday night’s Top of Iowa Conference basketball game in Belmond, Iowa.

Odegaard, a 6-foot-4 junior center, scorched the nets on 4 of 5 shots from 3-point range and 4 of 7 from 2-point distance to highlight a game-best 22 points to help the North Union Warriors corral the Belmond-Klemme Broncos, 73-47.

Preston Guerdet connected on a pair of 3-pointers to pace his 16-point performance for the Warriors. Guerdet also doled out three assists and pocketed four steals on the game.

Aiden Lofstrom netted 14 points on the strength of 7-for-11 shooting from the field and pulled down four rebounds, while Nick Schiltz supplied 10 points and garnered a co-team-best five boards for North Union.

Danyal Fothergill collected five points, a co-team-best five rebounds, three steals and a game-leading six assists for the Warriors, while Teagon Fothergill doled out three assists.

Jay Heinen added three steals for the Warriors, who made 24 of 41 attempts from 2-point range for 58.5 percent and 7 of 17 behind the bonus arc for 41.2 percent.

North Union built a 15-11 first-quarter lead before extending its margin to 31-26 by halftime. The Warriors then doubled the Broncos’ point production during the second half — 42-21 — to run away with the win.

North Union (4-2) plays host to Bishop Garrigan at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in Armstrong.

Split decision

The Fairmont Day Plumbing and Heating PeeWee ‘B’ hockey team netted a split decision during weekend ice action.

Minnesota River posted an 8-3 win over Fairmont last Saturday.

Preston Cepress tallied two goals for Day Plumbing and Heating, Dayton Draper generated one goal and one assist, while Hunter Olson, Hunter Thate and Bryce Ihrke chipped in helpers.

Netminder Kaden Olson turned away 32 shots on goal for Fairmont.

Noah Meixell produced a hat trick to help Fairmont bounce back for a 7-3 victory over Luverne on Sunday.

Cepress chalked up two goals and one assist, Axel Chapman generated one goal and one helper, Draper netted one goal, while Hunter Olson doled out an assist.

Kaden Olson recorded 11 saves between the pipes to earn the win for Day Plumbing & Heating.

1-1 record

The Carlson Dental Bantams hockey team produced a 1-1 record during weekend action on the road.

Eric Determan erupted for a game-best four goals and added two assists to power Fairmont to an 8-2 triumph over the Boji Blizzards on Saturday in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Gavin Kester supplied one goal and two helpers for Carlson Dental, while Barret Scholl, Klay Beemer and Dominic Earhart netted one goal apiece.

Logan Madsen, Macklain Anderson and Jace Meade doled out one assist, while goalie Brandon Hector tallied 16 saves for Fairmont.

Worthington edged Fairmont, 7-5, during district action Sunday in Worthington.

Kester produced two goals, Determan generated one goal and one helper, Meade and Anderson chalked up one goal each, while Scholl doled out one assist.

Hector turned away 32 shots on net for Carlson Dental.

Narrow loss

Windom Yellow edged the Fairmont Squirts ‘B’ hockey team, 5-3, at Martin County Arena on Sunday.

Ryder Thate produced two goals for Fairmont, Van Kollofski netted one goal, while Bennett Draper and Eli Meixell doled out one assist apiece.
