Schultze, Becker share Fairmont girls soccer MVP

FAIRMONT — Fairmont Area goalkeeper Cadee Becker and midfielder Ellie Schultze were selected as the Cardinal girls soccer team’s co-most valuable players for the 2021 season.

Becker and Schultze each played key roles in guiding Fairmont Area to the 16-year program’s first-ever appearance in the Class A state quarterfinals.

Becker and Schultze, a pair of seniors, also helped power the Cardinals to a 13-5-2 overall record.

Senior forward Rayah Quiring was named as the Cardinals’ offensive MVP, while senior Carissa Saxton was tabbed as defensive MVP.

Senior Kalie Hanna netted the team’s most improved award, freshman forward Kennedy Becker garnered the rookie of the year honor, while senior defender Alyssa Wiederhoeft merited the coaches’ spirit award.

Junior Hannah Goerndt was selected to the Class A all-state tournament team for her efforts.
