Jaguars, Bucs fall in sectional volleyball playoffs

SPRINGFIELD — The No. 3-seeded Springfield Tigers scratched out a 25-14, 25-10, 26-28, 25-14 victory over the No. 6-seeded Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Jaguars during postseason volleyball action Thursday night.

Springfield advances to face No. 2-seeded Cedar Mountain in a 7:30 p.m. Section 2A, South Sub-Section semifinal Monday in St. James.

The Jaguars ended the season with a 7-19 record.

Hayley Stensland distributed 22 set assists and connected on 20 of 22 serves for one ace to pace the Jaguars.

Johnnie Zaharia drilled eight kills and scooped up nine digs for the Jaguars, while teammate Mallery Geistfeld hammered seven kills and recorded five blocks.

Josie Clow made nine digs, Katelyn Diegnau blocked three opposing spikes and Kambria Steinhaus served 7 of 8 with one ace for the Jaguars.

Section 2AA

Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 3, Blue Earth Area 0 — No. 1-seeded WEM swept No. 8-seeded BEA in the postseason battle of the Bucs, 25-10, 25-9, 25-11, Thursday night in Waterville.

WEM (16-12) advances to play No. 4-seeded Minnesota Valley Lutheran in a 6 p.m. Section 2AA, South Sub-Section semifinal Monday at Mankato East High School.

Blue Earth Area ended the season with a 2-24 record.

Liz Beeler distributed six set assists, made seven digs and served 7 of 7 for BEA, while Brita Hougen smacked three kills to go with 5-for-5 serving.

Eloise Blair made 12 digs, Haley Kalis doled out seven set assists, Alicia Machacek hammered five kills, while Hailey Becker supplied four kills for the Bucs.
