Warriors sweep E-Hawks in Iowa Region 5 volleyball opener

EMMETSBURG, Iowa — Anna Longhenry pounded a match-best 16 kills and served 10-for-10 to help power the North Union Warriors to a 25-19, 25-10, 25-19 sweep over the Emmetsburg E-Hawks during first-round Iowa Class 2A, Region 5 volleyball action Monday night in Emmetsburg.

North Union (14-10) travels to Carroll, Iowa, on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. regional quarterfinal against Kuemper Catholic (24-10). Kuemper Catholic netted a first-round bye.

Ella Ulrich went 17 of 20 serving to generate three aces to complement six digs for the Warriors, while Olivia Von Bank drilled six kills and was perfect on 14 serves.

Libby Stevens doled out 14 set assists, made eight digs and tallied two aces on 12-for-12 serving for North Union, while Lily Henderson passed out 10 set assists and went 10 of 12 serving.

Emily Meyer contributed four kills, four blocks and seven digs to the Warriors’ winning ways, while Sam Nielsen chipped in three blocks.

Emily Schany collected nine kills and three blocks to top Emmetsburg, which ended its season with a 14-13 record.

Emma Auten distributed nine set assists and completed 10 of 10 serves for the E-Hawks, Sierra Wolff tallied eight kills, while Raegen Swanson recorded seven digs.

Jackson County Central 3, Fairmont 0 — The Class AA No. 2-ranked Huskies closed out their regular season with a three-game sweep over the Cardinals during Big South Conference volleyball action Monday night in Jackson.

Jackson County Central (23-6) produced consecutive victories by respective game scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-20.

The Huskies will await the pairings for the upcoming Section 3 postseason tournament.

Brittney Mosloski smacked six kills, collected six digs and generated two aces behind 12-for-12 serving to top the Cardinals, while teammate Vanessa Bliesmer served 9 of 10 and collected four kills.

Kynlie Anderson distributed 10 set assists and went 6 of 7 at the line for Fairmont, while Grace Pendergast doled out five set assists and was perfect on five serves.

Cassidy Schultz supplied four kills and four blocks for the Cardinals, while Olivia Ortega went 8-for-9 serving with two aces.

Fairmont (8-14) travels to Truman tonight for a 7:30 p.m. nonconference match against Martin Luther/ Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman to close out the regular season.

The Cardinals then will await the upcoming postseason tournament pairings for Section 3AA.

Jackson County Central bested Fairmont in B-squad action, 25-13, 25-15, Monday night in Jackson.

Gabby Leiding connected on 13 of 13 serves for two aces for the Cardinals, while Bre Steuber went 8 of 8 at the line with one ace to complement three kills.

The Huskies downed the Cardinals in C-squad action, 25-12, 25-15, Monday in Jackson.

Madison Landin made nine digs for Fairmont, while Hannah Fischer contributed five digs.
