FAIRMONT — Striker Rayah Quiring produced a first-half hat trick to trigger Fairmont Area’s offensive avalanche during first-round soccer playoff action Thursday night.

Quiring finished with a game-best four goals and one assist, Kennedy Becker generated three goals and the Cardinals’ defensive alignment did not allow a shot on goal to power a 19-0 Section 2A quarterfinal rout over the Tri-City United Titans at Kot Soccer Complex in Fairmont.

No. 2-seeded Fairmont Area (11-4-2) plays host to No. 3-seeded Stewartville in a 7 p.m. sectional semifinal Saturday at Kot Soccer Complex in Fairmont. Stewartville coasted to an 8-0 playoff victory over No. 6-seeded Cannon Falls.

No. 7-seeded TCU ended its season with a 1-14-1 record.

Thirteen different Cardinals reached the scoring column, with midfielder Mackenzie Householder unleashing two net-finding shots to join Quiring and Kennedy Becker in the multiple-goal category.

Ironically, Fairmont Area was turned away empty-handed during its first six shots on net before Quiring drilled a top-left shelf laser to find twine at the 29:20 mark of the opening half.

The proverbial floodgates then opened as the Mercurial Quiring collected defender Carissa Saxton’s precision-perfect lead pass, rushed by the Titans’ defense and skidded a grass-hugging shot into the net to double the lead with 27:43 to go before halftime.

Sami Lenort and Householder then struck like lightning, delivering back-to-back goals within a 37-second span. Lenort’s corner kick nicked a TCU defender and rolled into the net before Householder drove the distance off the next possession.

Quiring capped her first-half hat trick by working inside the box before hammering home a right-to-left blast for a 5-0 lead with 25:20 remaining in the first half.

Kennedy Becker nailed a top-right shelf scorcher off an Allison Janssen assist, Elayna Anderson transformed Kate Busche’s pass into a helper, Kennedy Becker scored her second goal off a dish from Alexis Newville before Anna Busche lofted a right-wing launch into the net for a 9-0 lead at intermission.

Fairmont Area outshot TCU 31-0 during the first 40 minutes before recording another 22 in the second segment en route to 53 shots on goal to complement 14 corner kicks. The Titans did record one corner kick.

Bailey Martinson found the twine off an Alyssa Wiederhoeft assist to open the second-half double-digit scoring barrage before Householder redirected Lenort’s searing blast for the Cardinals’ 11th goal.

Anna Utermarck, Quiring, Saxton, Alexis Newville, Wiederhoeft, Kennedy Becker, Selma Bleess and Abby Cihoski scored one goal apiece, respectively, during the final 34:45 of the second half, with Quiring, Lenort, Bleess, Janssen, Kate Busche and Samantha Castro delivering assists.

Starting Fairmont Area netkeeper Cadence Becker and second-half goalie Madi Stromberg did not face any shots in combining for the shutout.

TCU starting goalie Calley Stephens made 22 saves, while backup netkeeper Shaylan Dunphy denied 12 shots on goal.
