Fairmont Area soccer teams earn home playoff games
FAIRMONT — Both the Fairmont Area girls soccer team and the Cardinal boys soccer crew merited opening-round home games in the Section 2A postseason tournaments.
The Fairmont Area girls lineup netted the No. 2 seed and plays host to No. 7-seeded Tri-City United in Thursday’s 5 p.m. sectional quarterfinal at Kot Soccer Complex in Fairmont.
If the Cardinals win, they would host the winner between No. 3-seeded Stewartville and No. 6-seeded Cannon Falls in Saturday’s semifinal. The semifinal’s starting time has not been determined.
In the Section 2A boys soccer tournament, Fairmont Area drew the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6-seeded Cannon Falls in Thursday’s quarterfinal at 7 p.m. at Kot Soccer Complex.
If the Cardinals win, they would advance to play the winner of No. 2-seeded St. Peter and No. 7-seeded Tri-City United in a Saturday semifinal. The game will be held at the higher seed’s home field at a time to be determined.

Rose Lake has 4 hole-in-1s in 2021
FAIRMONT — Four golfers have etched their names in Rose Lake Golf Club’s rich history by recording hole-in-ones at the Fairmont-based course in 2021.
Al Thelen opened the spring with an ace on the 106-yard 13th hole on April 22. Thelen used a pitching wedge to record the hole-in-one, with Wayne Olson witnessing the shot.
Jim Glienke then stepped to the tee box on May 7 to reach the 13th hole in one swing with a 5-hybrid club.
Ken Carlson and Jim Johnson saw the ace.
Judy Post connected for another one of her numerous career aces on No. 13 on July 26. Judy Post used a pitching wedge to net the ace, with Mike Post, Mark Hinz and Scott Wokasch witnessing it.
Brycen Lutterman became the most recent Rose Lake golfer to card a hole-in-one on Aug. 22. Lutterman used a pitching wedge to reach the 136-yard No. 7 hole in one swing. Carter Beebe witnessed the shot.
