St. James tops Blue Earth Area volleyball

ST. JAMES — The St. James Area Saints posted a 3-1 victory over the Blue Earth Area Bucs during Big South Conference volleyball action Tuesday night in St. James.

The hometown Saints claimed respective game wins of 25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 25-18 over the Bucs.

Alicia Machacek hammered out 15 kills and four blocks to top Blue Earth Area’s frontline attack, while Eloise Blair produced 10 kills and three blocks. Blair also made 25 digs and generated eight points behind 11-for-14 serving.

Haley Kalis distributed 16 set assists and chalked up 17 points, including two aces, on 23 of 25 serving for the Bucs, while Taylor Klabunde contributed five kills, 10 digs and four points on 11-for-12 serving.

Hailey Becker smacked four kills to complement 11 points behind 17-for-19 serving for BEA, Kate Armon scooped up 20 digs, while Rylan Storbeck doled out 13 set assists.

Blue Earth Area (1-9) plays host to St. Peter tonight.

Fairmont C-squad spikers fall to New Ulm

FAIRMONT — New Ulm defeated Fairmont during C-squad volleyball action, 25-18, 25-14, Tuesday night in Fairmont.

Ashley Walker served up five aces for the hometown Cardinals, while Ellie Ortega and Haleigh Grotzinger produced three passes each.

Madison Landin and Abi Sundeen each served three aces, with Sundeen also dishing out two set assists.
