MINNEAPOLIS — The Fairmont Cardinals got off to a flying start to the high school girls tennis season on Friday at Reed Sweatt Family Tennis Center.

Fairmont swept the doubles division to pace a 5-2 dual-meet triumph over Monticello before breezing to a singles sweep to trigger a 6-1 victory over Osseo in Minneapolis.

Claire Nemmers, Briana Joseph, Maggy Totzke and Abi Peyman produced wins in singles action to help steer the Cardinals past Osseo.

Nemmers served a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Hana Johnson at the No. 1 position in the singles bracket, while Maggy Totzke also won in straight sets — 6-0, 6-1 — during net play against Zoe Smith at the No. 3 spot in the lineup.

Joseph outdueled Tessa Strand at second singles, 6-2, 3-6, (10-6), while Peyman rallied for a 6-4, 3-6, (10-5) triumph over Evelyn West at the fourth position in the bracket.

Lauren Davis and Ellie Hernes combined court skills at No. 1 doubles to pull off a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Osseo’s Greta Lindsay and Kayley Moll, while Fairmont’s Libby Totzke and Hope Klanderud rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 second doubles win over Lily Masteller and Kyra Nelson.

Sara Mertens and Maggie Albers outlasted Anika Haugen and Lilly Laven at third doubles, 5-7, 6-3, (10-5), to account for Osseo’s lone team tally.

Davis and Hernes, along with Libby Totzke and Klanderud, each improved to 2-0 in doubles play on the day by garnering straight-set wins over Monticello.

Davis and Hernes bested Abigail Delano and Ava Melvin at No. 1 doubles in back-to-back 6-2 sets, while Libby Totzke and Klanderud flattened Taylor Hess and Sophie Rosh, 6-1, 6-1, at second doubles.

Haugen and Johanna Petschke capped the Cardinals’ doubles sweep against Monticello by netting a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kenna Wang and Lily Levanduski during No. 3 doubles action.

Nemmers and Maggy Totzke captured Fairmont’s pair of team points in singles action. Nemmers disposed of Becca Rousslang at first singles in back-to-back 6-1 sets, while Maggy Totzke generated a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Sam Pollen at the No. 2 spot in the lineup.

Monticello’s Adah Mattson squeezed by Peyman, 6-3, 6-4, during third singles play, while Taylor Geary outdueled Rachel O’Connor at No. 4 singles, 6-7, 6-2, (10-5).
