Fairmont 16-18 softball team places 4th at league tournament

NORTH MANKATO — The Fairmont 16-18 girls fastpitch softball team compiled a 4-2 record to capture fourth place in the 16-team Southern Star League tournament over the weekend at Caswell Park.

Fairmont opened Saturday’s diamond action by engineering a 15-0, three-inning run-rule triumph over the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 16U squad.

Anna Ehlert collected two hits, including a double, to generate four RBIs for Fairmont, which erupted for 12 runs in the second inning.

Allison Janssen fired a one-hit shutout from inside the pitcher’s circle to earn the win. Janssen struck out six and did not issue a walk in three innings of work.

Nevaeh Rahm contributed two hits to Fairmont’s winning ways.

Nicollet then bested Fairmont in second-round action, 12-1.

Ava Gillmore doubled, while Jaya Johnson and Ehlert supplied singles for Fairmont.

Rahm allowed 12 runs, struck out nine and walked four in four innings pitched.

Emma Gudahl belted three hits, including a double and a triple, to power Fairmont’s 15-2 rout over the Marshall 16U team in third-round action Saturday.

Chantel Moeller, Mandy Pytleski and Chloe Miller each contributed doubles to the winning effort.

Pytleski allowed two runs on four hits, struck out four and walked three in four frames of work to earn the victory.

Fairmont then capped Saturday’s four-game span by edging Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, 3-2.

Rahm collected two hits for Fairmont, while Ehlert and Pytleski chipped in singles.

Janssen recorded eight strikeouts, walked three and gave up two runs on three hits in four innings to earn the pitching win.

Jaya Johnson produced a clutch two-run double in the third inning as Fairmont outlasted Worthington in six innings, 5-4, during Sunday’s fifth-round contest.

Janssen struck out two, did not issue a walk and allowed one hit in 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief to notch the win.

Pytleski gave up four runs — all unearned — on six hits in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Pytleski struck out one and did not issue a walk.

Janssen, Ehlert and Pytleski each contributed hits to the winning performance.

Nicollet ended the tournament by posting a 6-0 win over Fairmont on Sunday.

Kynlie Anderson, Gudahl and Ehlert each contributed a hit.

Janssen allowed six runs — all unearned — on four hits, and walked three in four innings of work.

Fairmont (18-14) competes in the Minnesota 16U state tournament July 24-25 at a site to be determined.
