Warriors run-rule Eagle Grove

EAGLE GROVE, Iowa — The Iowa Class 2A, No. 13-ranked North Union Warrior softball team flexed its muscle during a Top of Iowa Conference clash against Eagle Grove on Wednesday night. Leadoff batter Sam Nielsen and No. 2 hitter Cassie Beadle combined for eight hits and eight runs scored, while the trio of Olivia Von Bank, Vanessa Von Bank and Naomi Jones utilized their long-ball hitting skills to generate a dozen RBIs as the Warriors erupted for 12 first-inning runs before tacking on 11 more in the top of the second.

The potent batting order pounded out 21 hits, while ace right-hander Emily Meyer fired two shutout innings to guide North Union to a 23-0, three-inning rout over Eagle Grove. Emily Meyer had six strikeouts, while allowing one hit.

Kaylee Meyer then pitched the final inning, striking out one and allowing one hit.

Emily Meyer allowed an infield hit to Eagle Grove leadoff batter Lea Friedl then recorded six consecutive outs via strikeout to earn the win.

Olivia Von Bank went 4-for-4, including both a two-run home run and a two-run double during the second inning, to produce a game-best six RBIs and scored three runs. Vanessa Von Bank went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored for North Union, while Naomi Jones went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and three RBIs. Nielsen and Beadle each went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored for the Warriors, while Shelby Fraker went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Emily Meyer assisted her own cause by smacking a double, while Ella Ulrich chipped in an RBI single.

North Union (8-1) plays host to Spencer at 6 p.m. tonight in Swea City.
