Schaeffer Academy tennis serves 7-0 loss to Fairmont

ROCHESTER -- The Schaeffer Academy Lions swept both singles and doubles brackets to net a 7-0 nonconference victory over the Fairmont Cardinals on Tuesday in Rochester.

Brady Zimmerman and Faith Monson outdueled Fairmont's combination of Ameya Komaragiri and Thomas Klanderud at the No. 1 position in the doubles bracket. Zimmerman and Monson claimed a first-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), before edging Komaragiri and Klanderud in the second set, 6-4.

Schaeffer Academy's Adam Rector and Noah Monson teamed at No. 2 doubles to outslug Jack Hagen and Parker Vetter, 6-3, 6-4.

Kate Friese and Aiden Kluth completed the Lions' doubles sweep by serving back-to-back 6-0 set losses to Dominick Lund-May and Oliver Thedens at the third spot in the lineup.

Luke Bothun posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory over the Cardinals' Ian Fortune at first singles, while the Lions' Annie Orvis netted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Noah Vetter at the No. 2 position in the bracket.

Asher Monson collected another singles point for Schaeffer Academy by capturing back-to-back 6-1 sets over Carter Quist at the No. 3 spot, while Joey Lash generated a 6-0, 6-0 win over Sebastian Castro at fourth singles.

Fairmont (8-7) plays host to Stewartville at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cardinal Courts.

Blue Earth Area 4, Worthington 3 -- The Bucs won two doubles matches and two singles matches to take a Big South Conference tennis win Tuesday in Blue Earth.

Vern Johnson eased to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Alec Langerud at first singles, while Nick Frundt worked his way to a three-set win over Ian Barber at second singes 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

BEA's first doubles team of Jamie Johnson and Joe Frundt took a 6-3, 6-4 win over Levi Kuhl and David Sternke, while the Bucs' second doubles team of James Greer and Seth Stevermer beat Jake Ahrenstorff and Steven Adams via matching 6-1 sets.

Worthington's Ben Schrieber beat Jerry Passe via a 6-2, 6-1 win at third singles, while Ezra Bennett beat Devin Haase by matching 6-3 sets at fourth singles.

The Trojans' third doubles team of Matthew Becker and Alex Mazariegos used a 10-4 super tiebreaker to beat Seth Matthews and John Lappe at third doubles after Becker and Mazariegos took the first set 6-2, then Matthews and Lappe reversed fortune for a 6-2 second-set win.

BEA (5-3) goes to Redwood Falls to face Redwood Valley at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
