Madelia boys golfers 2nd at triangular

MADELIA — Adam Henze connected for a pair of birdies to help collect medalist honors in guiding the Tri-City United Titans to a 20-shot margin of victory over the host Madelia Blackhawks on Friday in Madelia.

Henze penciled in under-par totals on Nos. 1 and 15, while connecting for six pars to pace TCU’s first-place team score of 387. Colin Wihlm recorded a triangular-best seven pars to highlight his runner-up medalist score of 42-44-86 to steer Madelia to second place with a 407.

Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet finished third in boys golf action with a 428.

Noah Tierney, Colby Wihlm and Collin Tierney rounded out Madelia’s counting scores with respective 18-hole totals of 106, 107 and 108. Noah Tierney produced back-to-back 53s, Colby Wihlm generated a 57-50, while Collin Tierney notched a 53-55, including two pars.

Josiah DeMaris connected for four pars to pace a 55-56-111 for the Blackhawks, while teammate Luke Stensrud chipped in a 59-63-122.

The Madelia Blackhawks girls golfers fired a 517 to outdistance incomplete scores by Tri-City United and Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet during a Valley Conference triangular Friday in Madelia.

LCWM/Nicollet golfer Allie Johnson earned medalist honors by shooting back-to-back nine-hole scores of 54 en route to a first-place total of 108.

Savannah Wyman carded an 18-hole round of 53-56-109 to garner runner-up medalist honors in topping Madelia’s winning effort. Katie Bocock contributed a 62-63-125 to the Blackhawks’ performance, Katherine DeVlaeminck netted a 72-63-135, while Genesis Robles-Moran shot a 78-70-148 to cap Madelia’s effort.

Madelia tees off against Alden-Conger, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet and Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain at noon Tuesday at North Links Golf Course in Mankato.

Algona 171, North Union 181, West Bend-Mallard 185 — James Wartick’s medalist score of 36 powered the Bulldogs to a triangular golf win over the runner-up Warriors and the third-place Wolverines on Friday in West Bend, Iowa.

Kody Elbert shot the runner-up score of 39 to lead WBM.

Nick Schiltz led the Warriors with his nine-hole score of 44 with three pars, while Teagon Fothergill chipped in a 45 with two pars. Parker Eichenberger, Chase Cummins and Gage Madden all carded 46s to round out the Warriors’ scoring.

Eichenberger connected on two pars, while Cummins and Madden each had one.

Michael Hanson recorded a 55 to finish the Warriors’ day.

North Union travels to Rice Lake Golf and Country Club in Lake Mills, Iowa, to compete in the Top of Iowa Conference Meet at 10 a.m. Monday.
