St. Peter netters edge Fairmont, 4-3

ST. PETER — The St. Peter Saints swept the doubles bracket to build a 4-3 Big South tennis win over the Fairmont Cardinals on Thursday in St. Peter.

Thomas Klanderud earned the Cardinals a team point with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Marty Anderson at second singles, while Fairmont’s Jack Hagen won at third singles with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) decision over Will Elias.

Ian Fortune also netted a Fairmont point by claiming a 6-1, 6-4 win over Colton Abels at fourth singles.

St. Peter’s Kelson Lund took a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ameya Komaragiri during first singles action to prevent a Fairmont bracket sweep.

The Saints’ first doubles tandem of Andars Dixon and Tyson Schmitz took matching 6-1 sets against Parker Vetter and Noah Vetter, while St. Peter’s second doubles team of Cooper Dean and Wes Yang claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win over Sebastian Castro and Carter Quist.

Chase Yeager and Konrad Wernsing sealed the doubles sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Weston Loughmiller and Dominick Lund-May at third doubles.

Fairmont (5-5) hits the road for a nonconference matchup with Austin at 4:30 p.m. today.
