Fairmont tennis posts 2-1 mark at St. James Area Quad
ST. JAMES — The Fairmont Cardinals boys tennis team nearly ran the gamut during Saturday’s quadrangular in St. James.
Fairmont swept the singles bracket to help pace a 5-2 victory over Waconia, netted all four singles matches to edge host St. James Area by a 4-3 decision and lost a down-to-the-wire 4-3 dual meet to Cotter.
Ameya Komaragiri produced a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Jacob Anderson during first singles play against Waconia, while Cardinal teammate Thomas Klanderud secured a 6-4, 6-2 second singles win over Carson Puh.
Jack Hagen continued his winning ways by posting a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Keagan Vandergon during No. 3 singles action, while Fairmont teammate Parker Vetter outlasted Aaron Guse at the fourth position in the lineup, 6-7, 6-2, (10-5).
Ian Fortune and Carter Quist combined court skills at No. 1 doubles to defeat Carson Mattson and Corben Dock in back-to-back 7-5 sets to cap the Cardinals’ team points against Waconia.
Komaragiri, Klanderud, Hagen and Fortune produced Fairmont’s points during singles action to squeeze by the host Saints.
Komaragiri netted a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Caleb Rivera at the No. 1 spot in the division, Klanderud coasted to back-to-back 6-0 set triumphs over Marco Hernandez at second singles, Hagen bested Preston Wegner at the No. 3 position, 6-1, 6-4, while Fortune outslugged Payton Brown at fourth singles, 6-3, 7-5.
Hagen completed his perfect 3-0 record on the day by downing Jon Besek at third singles, 6-2, 6-3, to account for the Cardinals’ only point in that bracket.
Noah Vetter and Dominick Lund-May combined at No. 2 doubles to garner a 6-0, 6-2 win over Steven Pilarski and Spencer Briggs, while Fairmont teammates Oliver Thedens and Weston Loughmiller collected back-to-back 6-3 set wins over Cotter’s Macy Dvorak and Sjida Mircada at third doubles.
Fairmont (4-3) is scheduled to return to St. James on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. Big South dual meet against the Saints.
