Schmidt steers Maverick golfers to triangular win

MADELIA — Hunter Schmidt shot a 3-over par, nine-hole score of 39 to lead the Martin County West Mavericks to a triangular golf sweep on Thursday in Madelia.

MCW shot a team total of 205 for first, while Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet connected for a 208 and Madelia totaled a 213.

Schmidt connected for par on the final four holes and two of the first five to build his 3-over total.

Andrew Lawrence notched the Mavericks’ next counting score of 47, including one par, while Carter Lyon totaled 57 for the Mavericks.

Connor Simmonds added a score of 62, while Evan Roben shot 64 for the Mavericks.

Luke Stensrud led Madelia with a score of 48, while Colby Wihlm shot a 54, Josiah DeMaris hit a 55 and Collin Tierney and Noah Tierney each shot 56. Trey Misslin added a 64 through nine holes for the Blackhawks.

Madelia plays Minnesota Valley Lutheran at 4:15 p.m. today at Mayflower Golf Club in Fairfax, while Martin County West travels to Terrace View Golf Course in Mankato at 2 p.m. next Thursday to match up with St. Clair.

Madelia’s Savannah Wyman carded a nine-hole round of 53 to capture top individual honors in girls action Thursday in Madelia.

Martin County’s McKenzie Koehnen fired a 67 to place second overall, while LCWM/Nicollet’s Sophie Begnaud was third with a 70.

All three girls teams were incomplete for the triangular.

Estherville-Lincoln Central 167, North Union 188, Algona High 189 — Blake Ingvall and Ryan Schiltz fired a 38 and a 39, respectively, to power ELC to a nonconference triangular win Thursday in Estherville, Iowa.

Parker Eichenberger led the Warriors with a nine-hole total of 44, including a birdie on the par-3 ninth hole, while teammate Teagan Fothergill shot a 47 with two pars.

Gage Madden penciled in a nine-hole round of 48, including two pars, for the Warriors, while Nick Schiltz added a 49 with one par to complete the counting scores.

Chase Cummins shot a 50 and Michael Hanson added a 53 for North Union.

North Union travels to Belmond Country Club for triangular action against Belmond-Klemme and Eagle Grove at 4:15 p.m. today.
