Heckman, Jaskulke net double-doubles to top Jaguars’ hoops win

WELLS — Double-double performances from Adam Heckman and Cael Jaskulke led the Jaguars to a regular-season victory.

The Truman/Martin Luther/ Granada-Huntley-East Chain Jaguars coasted to a 65-33 nonconference basketball victory over the United South Central Rebels on Thursday night in Wells.

Adam Heckman scored a game-leading 25 points and brought down 10 rebounds, while Jaskulke notched 15 points and garnered a game-best 11 caroms.

Matt Heckman contributed 11 points to the Jaguars’ winning ways, while Owen Wolter scored six points, dished out a game-best seven assists and poked away four steals. Jakob Fischer added four points for the Jaguars.

The Jaguars went on a 20-2 run that bridged the halftime break to build their advantage.

The Jaguars end their regular season with an overall record of 12-5 to earn the No. 3 seed in the Section 2A, South Sub-Section tournament. They will play host to the winner between No. 6-seeded Mountain Lake Area and No. 11-seeded Alden-Conger in a South Sub-Section quarterfinal at 7 p.m. next Thursday night in Truman.

Girls Basketball

Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 65, Madelia 28 — Emily Stauter scored 14 points and brought down five rebounds to power the Jaguars past the Blackhawks by 37 during Valley Conference action Thursday night in Madelia.

Olivia Mattson contributed 12 points to the Jaguars’ efforts, while Michaelah Petrowiak scored 10 points and brought down six boards.

The Jaguars made 26 of 62 field goals overall and hit 11 of 15 free throws.

The Jaguars end their regular season with a record of 10-6 to garner the No. 4 seed in the Section 2A, South Sub-Section bracket and will play host to No. 5-seeded Springfield in quarterfinal action at 7 p.m. Wednesday night in Granada.

Lester Prairie 60, Martin County West 42 — The Bulldogs held the Mavericks to 12 second-half points to take an 18-point nonconference win Thursday night in Trimont.

Marissa Whitehead scored 13 points, including sinking three 3s, to lead the Mavericks, while teammate Kari Matejka contributed nine points.

Emily Anderson added seven points for the Mavericks.

MCW ends its regular season with a record of 12-5 and earned the No. 2 seed in the Section 2A, South Sub-Section tournament. MCW plays host to No. 7-seeded Mountain Lake Area at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Trimont.
