Eagles cage Cardinals, 7-3

WINDOM — The Eagles took their second consecutive win against the Cardinals.

Windom Area beat Fairmont Area 7-3 during Big South Conference hockey action Monday night in Windom.

The Cardinals jumped ahead when Alec Reutzel used a double helper from Thomas Claeys and Kaiden Musser with 10:46 left in the first half, but three minutes later Ethan Rabbe hit the equalizer for the Eagles.

Brock Lutterman put the Cardinals ahead again to start the second period with help from Eli Anderson, then Ben Purrington and Alex Espenson scored to give Windom Area a 3-2 advantage going into the final period.

Hudson Artz eqaulized for the Cardinals with a goal at the 16:42 mark of the final period with help from Lutterman, but the Eagles scored four consecutive goals to put the game away.

Windom Area outshot Fairmont Area 42-32 in the matchup.

Fairmont Area netminder Rachel O’Connor made 35 saves for the Cardinals, while Dan Stubbe blocked 28 shots to net the win for the Eagles.

Fairmont Area (0-11) goes to Redwood Falls to face Redwood Valley at 7 p.m. Friday.
