Matejka connects for five 3s, helps Mavericks muzzle Bulldogs

JANESVILLE — Kari Matejka connected on five 3-pointers to power the Mavericks.

Matejka totaled a game-best 19 points to power Martin County West to a 57-20 rout over the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Bulldogs during Valley Conference basketball action Thursday night in Janesville.

MCW’s defense held JWP to only seven points in the first half.

Emily Anderson contributed 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to the Mavericks’ winning ways, while teammate Emily Dunlop produced nine points.

Katie Lange added six points for Martin County West (7-3), which travels to St. Clair for another Valley Conference road matchup at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

St. Clair 62, Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 57 (OT) — Mallery Geistfeld hit a 3-pointer with three seconds left in regulation to send the Jaguars and Cyclones into overtime during Valley Conference action Thursday night in Granada.

The Cyclones then outscored the Jaguars, 14-9, in the extra session to net the win.

Brooke Grathwohl scored 13 points to lead the Jaguars, while Katelyn Diagnau contributed 10 points and six rebounds.

Eden Studer scored 10 points and grabbed seven caroms, while Geistfeld contributed seven points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Jaguars.

Kayli Hinze led the Cyclones with 23 points.

The Jaguars made 24 of 67 shots overall and hit 7 out of 12 free throw attempts.

The Jaguars (5-5) play host to Nicollet in another Valley Conference matchup at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday night in Granada.

St. Peter 57, Blue Earth Area 37 — Rhyan Holmgren scored a game-best 24 points, including three 3-pointers, to power the Saints past the Bucs by 20 points during Big South Conference action Thursday in Blue Earth.

Arika Howard led the Bucs with nine points to complement six rebounds, while McKenna Dutton scored seven points.

Lauren Schavey added five points and Eloise Blair brought down a team-high eight rebounds to complement four points.

Te’a Armstrong led the Bucs with three assists and four steals.

Blue Earth Area (2-) plays host to Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton at 7:15 p.m. next Thursday.
