LCWM fends off MCW in boys basketball

LAKE CRYSTAL — Drew Dahl netted 19 points to pace a balanced scoring attack as the Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Knights eclipsed the Martin County West Mavericks, 65-56, during Valley Conference basketball action Thursday night.

Michael Matteson contributed 16 points to LCWM’s winning ways, while Zack Wells supplied 15 points.

Zach Anderson delivered a game-leading double-double performance of 21 points and 12 rebounds to top the Mavericks’ effort. Anderson also distributed three assists and pocketed three steals.

Tanner Sinn tallied 16 points, including a dozen in the second half, and garnered six rebounds for the Mavericks, while teammate Mitch Weber collected 11 points and five boards.

Christian Bachenberg doled out four assists and pulled down nine rebounds to help Anderson and MCW to a 33-27 edge on the boards.

The Knights held a 27-23 halftime advantage before outscoring the Mavericks 38-33 during the second half.

The Mavericks made 10 of 39 shots from 2-point range, 8 of 21 behind the 3-point arc and 7 of 14 at the free throw line.

Martin County West (1-6) plays host to New Ulm at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday night in Sherburn in a nonconference game.

LCWM (2-5) travels to Nicollet on Tuesday night for a conference game.
