B.E. Area tennis maintains perfect record

NEW ULM — A perfect 28-for-28 and counting.

The Blue Earth Area Bucs girls tennis lineup improved to 4-0 in dual meets by sweeping the New Ulm Eagles for the second time this season during Thursday’s Big South Conference East Division clash in New Ulm.

The Bucs pocketed straight-set victories in both singles and doubles brackets en route to the 7-0 winning decision over the Eagles. Blue Earth Area opened the modified fall schedule with a shutout over New Ulm on Aug. 25 at Hal Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth.

The Bucs then proved perfect in back-to-back dual meets with Waseca on Aug. 27 and Monday.

BEA’s Te’a Armstrong continued her winning ways by needing only a baker’s dozen games to defeat Makiah Otto at first singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Marissa Benz coasted to a 6-0, 6-3 second singles triumph over Abby Hietala, while the Bucs’ Addison Armstrong needed little time in posting a 6-1, 6-2 win over Malia Emerson at the No. 3 spot in the bracket.

Arika Howard capped BEA’s singles sweep by duplicating Te’a Armstrong’s score of 6-0, 6-1 en route to downing Lydia King at the No. 4 position in the lineup.

McKenna Dutton and Kylie Rosenau combined at No. 1 doubles to net a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Maddie O’Connor and Emily Guggisberg for the Bucs, while Britt Howard and Lyndsey Borris needed only 13 games to overcome Marissa Todesco and Makenna Simpson at second doubles, 6-0, 6-1.

Cali Beyer and Olivia Dutton put the finishing touches on the Bucs’ doubles-bracket sweep by earning back-to-back 6-0 set wins over Calyn Glaser and Kate Frauenholtz at the No. 3 position.

Blue Earth Area (4-0) travels to Sleepy Eye on Tuesday for another Big South Conference dual meet with River Valley.
