Martins to host Hadley in regional championship opener

FAIRMONT — The No. 1-seeded Fairmont Martins open defense of their Region 13C amateur baseball crown against the No. 6-seeded and 2019 regional runner-up Hadley Buttermakers starting Wednesday night.

The Martins (20-2) play host to the Buttermakers in Game 1 of their best-of-3 regional championship series at 7:30 p.m. at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont.

The series, which also will determine seedings for the state tournament, shifts to Hadley for Game 2 at 2 p.m. Saturday.

If a Game 3 is needed, the Martins and Buttermakers will clash in a decisive Game 3 at 2 p.m. Sunday back at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont.

Both Fairmont and Hadley already have qualified for the Minnesota Class ‘C’ state tournament, which will be held in Milroy and Springfield later this month.

Hadley shut out No. 2-seeded Luverne, 6-0, Sunday in Game 3 of their regional semifinal series to gain the championship round.

In the third-place series, Luverne plays host to the No. 4-seeded Milroy Irish in Game 1 of their best-of-3 series at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

Three teams from each regional qualify for the state tourney.
