Martins flatten Jackson in 7 innings

JACKSON – The Fairmont Martins’ offense exploded for a 13-2 seven-inning win over the Jackson Bulls on Sunday in Jackson.

The Martins took the lead in the first. Luke Becker singled and Ethan Hurn walked, then Derek Shoen, Levi Becker and Jon Traetow all singled for one RBI each. Jackson responded with two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-out, two-RBI single.

Luke Becker added a solo home run in the second inning to give the Martins a 4-2 advantage.

The Martins’ bats then flooded Jackson, scoring seven runs in the third.

Traetow homered, Tyler Tennyson singled, Spencer Chirpich singled and Adam Schmidt added a two-RBI single.

Luke Becker collected another RBI with a single, as did Shoen, who then scored on a wild pitch.

Levi Becker added a single and Tennyson hit another single, this time gaining an RBI on the stat sheet.

The score held through the fourth, then the Martins added two more runs in the fifth.

Shoen walked and Levi Becker singled before Traetow hit an RBI single and Tennyson hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI.

Tennyson pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out nine.

Chirpich and Traetow split the final inning on the mound.

Luke Becker singled twice and homered, while Shoen singled three times and walked once, scoring three runs.

Levi Becker collected four hits, three singles and a double, while Traetow singled, hit a home run and walked.

The Martins learned Saturday that they earned a first-round bye past the league playoff best-of-three series and moving directly to the Region 13C playoffs starting next week.

Before the start of the playoffs, the Martins have one scheduled regular-season matchup left, facing Blue Earth at 7 p.m. Friday in Blue Earth.
