Jaguars’ playoff game in Northrop

GRANADA — The Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain Jaguars boys basketball team tips off the Section 2A, South Sub-Section playoffs on Thursday night at Martin Luther High School in Northrop.

The game was inadvertently listed as being played in Granada on the mshsl.org website.

The No. 6-seeded Jaguars host No. 11-seeded Alden-Conger in a 7 p.m. play-in game.

The winner plays No. 3 Mountain Lake/Comfrey at 7 p.m. Saturday in Mountain Lake.

Cardinal Power registration open

FAIRMONT — Registration for Cardinal Power summer girls fastpitch softball is now available online at: cardinalpower.club.

Cardinal Power will consist of teams for girls ages 6-18 (8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U).

Fees will increase for those registering after April 1.

North Union trio earn hoops honors

ARMSTRONG — North Union senior post player Chloe Lofstrom earned first-team all-Top of Iowa Conference, West Division honors for the 2019-20 campaign.

Warriors senior forward Hope Steinberger and senior wing Robert Ortman each received honorable mention status from the conference.

Householder nets all-BSC honors

FAIRMONT — Fairmont Area sophomore defender Mackenzie Householder was selected to the Big South Conference’s girls hockey first team for the 2019-20 season.

Householder also merited a place on the 2018-19 all-league girls hockey team.

FBA’s summer sign-up now open

FAIRMONT — Registration for the Fairmont Baseball Association’s 2020 summer seasons is available online at: www.fairmontbaseball.com.

Players can sign up for the summer I-90 league (minor, junior and pony leagues), Jr. Martins traveling baseball (10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U), as well as VFW and Legion baseball.

Players should complete registration by March 13. Registrations received after that date will be assessed a late entry fee.

7th-grade cagers place 2nd at tourney

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont seventh-grade Red girls basketball team netted runner-up honors during last weekend’s Woodbury tournament.

Kennedy Becker, Meredith Nemmers and Ellie Ortega combined for 27 points to power Fairmont to an opening 33-15 triumph over Forest Lake Gold.

Becker scored 10, Nemmers tallied nine points and grabbed eight boards, while Ortega tossed in eight points and garnered four rebounds. Carys Gudahl also pocketed four caroms.

Ortega erupted for 15 points to engineer Fairmont’s 48-16 semifinal win over Mendota Heights.

Becker scored 10 points, while Brylee Miller and Gudahl each netted six points. Nemmers topped Red’s rebounding with eight, while Miller chipped in seven boards.

Mahtomedi Gold edged Fairmont, 20-18, for the championship.

Miller produced seven points and seven rebounds for Red, Ortega chipped in five points and six boards, while Nemmers added four points and six rebounds.
