Mavericks, Jaguars hit road for 2A basketball playoffs

Both the Martin County West Mavericks and the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars girls basketball teams open the postseason on the road.

Martin County West netted the No. 5 seed in the Section 2A, South Sub-Section tournament and will tip off the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, against No. 4-seeded Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey in Mountain Lake.

The winner between MCW and MLA/Comfrey advances to play either No. 1-seeded Waterville-Elysian-Morristown or No. 8-seeded United South Central in a 6 p.m. South Sub-Section semifinal Friday, Feb. 28, in Lake Crystal.

GHEC/Truman/Martin Luther received the No. 6 seed and opens Section 2A, South Sub-Section quarterfinal action at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, against the No. 3-seeded St. Clair Cyclones in St. Clair.

The winner between St. Clair and GHEC/Truman/Martin Luther advances to face either No. 2-seeded Springfield or No. 7-seeded Nicollet/ Mankato Loyola in a 7:45 p.m. sub-section semifinal Friday, Feb. 28, in Lake Crystal.
