Tigers scratch Jaguar hoopsters; No. 9 Waseca rolls by Fairmont

TRUMAN — Sydney Hauger posted 20 points to help lead the Springfield Tigers.

Springfield beat the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars 45-32 in nonconference girls basketball action Thursday night in Truman.

Taylor Augustin scored eight points to help the Tigers.

Jayme Balcom led the way for the Jaguars in multiple categories.

Balcom totalled a team-leading 15 points, while grabbing a co-team leading five rebounds and collecting a team-high six steals.

Post player Michaelah Petrowiak co-led the Jaguars with five rebounds, while contributing four steals.

Eden Studer was second on the Jaguars with seven points, while teammate Emily Stauter also grabbed five boards.

The Jaguars shot 12-for-46 from the field for 26 percent, including 2 of 11 from 3-point range. The Jaguars also made 6 of 19 free throws.

The Jaguars (2-1) play their first Valley Conference contest at 12:30 p.m. Saturday when they travel to St. Clair.

Waseca 61, Fairmont 27 — The senior trio of Gus Boyer, Rachel Breck and Hannah Potter combined for 48 points to power the Class 2A No. 9-ranked Bluejays to a 34-point Big South Conference victory over the Cardinals on Thursday night in Waseca.

Boyer and Breck produced co-game-highs of 17 points apiece, while Potter contributed 14 to the runaway victory.

Maggy Totzke netted eight points to top Fairmont’s effort, while teammate Emma Gudahl chipped in seven points.

The Cardinals connected on 10 of 22 field goals, including 4 of 9 from 3-point distance, and sank only 3 of 8 free throws.

The Bluejays scorched the nets on 25 of 41 shots overall for 60 percent, including 5 of 11 behind the 3-point arc to complement 6-for-7 free-throw shooting.

Fairmont (1-1) faces Luverne at 10 a.m. Saturday in a BSC Showcase game in Jackson, while Waseca (1-1) squares off against Redwood Valley at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Emily Frank netted 13 points to help Fairmont post a 38-27 triumph over Waseca during B-squad action Thursday night in Waseca.

Carissa Saxton contributed 10 points to the Cardinals’ winning ways, while Cassidy Schultz chipped in six points.

Abby Cihoski scored 14 points to top Fairmont’s 34-20 victory over Waseca during C-squad play Thursday night in Waseca.

Jazlyn Geerdes contributed seven points to the Cardinals’ performance, while Kate Busche supplied five points and nine rebounds.
