Mavericks cage Jaguars in 4 games

TRIMONT — The Martin County West Mavericks’ volleyball team rallied from an opening-game loss to reel off three consecutive wins to best the Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Jaguars on Tuesday night in Trimont.

The Mavericks won the Valley Conference showdown by respective scores of 19-25, 25-17, 25-21, 26-24.

Logan Kosbab generated 16 points, including five aces, behind 20-for-21 serving to complement 12 kills and 13 digs to top MCW’s winning performance.

Jenna Clow produced 19 digs to go with three aces and a dozen points on 19-for-20 serving for the Mavericks, while Bella Bicknase dished out 16 set assists, generated 13 digs, and notched eight points on 14 of 15 serving.

Shaylynn Anderson also doled out 16 set assists for MCW, Emily Dunlop supplied six kills and six ace blocks, while Taylor Elliott chipped in 12 digs and seven kills.

Lizzie Oothoudt led the Jaguars with 10 kills, while teammate Michaelah Petrowiak spiked nine winners.

Lydia Steinhaus dished out a game-leading 25 set assists, complementing her four service aces, while Kambria Steinhaus dug out 25 spikes for the Jaguars.

The Mavericks (7-16) and Jaguars (9-17) await the results of today’s seeding meeting for their respective opening-round matches in the Section 2A postseason tournament.
