Mavericks fend off Blackhawks in Valley volleyball clash

MADELIA — The Martin County West Mavericks staved off the Madelia Blackhawks’ late rally, 25-20, 25-10, 16-25, 19-25, 15-5, during Valley Conference volleyball action Tuesday night in Madelia.

Emily Dunlop pounded eight kills to go with 11 digs and four ace blocks for the Mavericks, while teammate Logan Kosbab produced 10 kills and a dozen digs.

Shaylynn Anderson doled out 16 set assists, hammered five service aces and made nine digs for MCW, while Taylor Elliott contributed seven kills, seven digs and four service aces to the winning performance.

Jenna Clow delivered five service aces and made 14 digs for the Mavericks, Gabby Lange drilled five kills and made three blocks, while Bella Bicknase dished out 14 set assists.

Martin County West (6-15) plays host to Jackson County Central on Monday night in Trimont.

St. Peter 3, Fairmont 0 — The Saints swept consecutive games, 25-9, 25-10, 25-13, from the Cardinals during Big South Conference action Tuesday night in St. Peter.

Andrea Westcott distributed a team-best four set assists to complement four digs and a 6-for-7 serving performance to pace Fairmont, while teammate Madysen Allen paced the defensive effort with 10 digs.

Cambrie Anderson scooped up six opposing spikes and went 5-for-5 at the line for the Cardinals, while Cassidy Schultz and Bryn Miller each chipped in five digs. Miller also had three kills.

Jen Moeller went 6-for-6 serving with four digs and three kills for the red-and-white, Sabrina Segar served 4-for-4 with four digs and three kills, Maddy Schwieger tallied three kills and Sophie Johnson added four digs.

Fairmont (4-17) travels to Jackson County Central on Thursday.

St. Peter defeated Fairmont in B-squad action, 25-12, 25-17, Tuesday night.

Brittney Mosloski pounded three kills to top the Cardinals, Jaya Johnson made nine digs, while Kynlie Anderson connected for 16 serves.

Olivia Ortega completed 14 serves and doled out four set assists to help Fairmont best St. Peter in C-squad action, 19-25, 26-24, 15-12, Tuesday night.

Hadley Artz smacked five kills for the Cardinals, while Johanna Petschke chipped in three kills.

St. James Area 3, Blue Earth Area 0 — The Saints edged the Bucs, 25-16, 25-14, 26-24, during Big South action Tuesday night in Blue Earth.

Brita Hougen drilled seven kills, made five digs and blocked two opposing spikes for BEA, while Alicia Machacek notched five kills and four ace blocks.

Liz Beeler distributed 17 set assists and made seven digs for the Bucs, Eloise Blair led the defense with 22 digs to complement 10-for-10 serving for four points, while Gabby Haaland delivered four kills.

Natalie Huse generated eight points, including three aces, behind a 14-for-14 serving effort for BEA, Miya Gustafson tallied six digs and went 12 of 13 serving with seven points, while Heidi Herrmann chipped in four ace blocks.

Blue Earth Area (1-23) plays host to Waseca on Thursday night.

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 3, North Union 2 — The Cardinals rallied from a 2-1 game deficit to trip the Warriors, 25-22, 17-25, 21-25, 25-18, 15-7, Tuesday night in Garner, Iowa.

North Union (3-22) travels to Belmond-Klemme on Thursday.
